The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has highlighted a series of strategic renewable energy projects on Earth Day 2026 under the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” underscoring its role in advancing clean and reliable electricity access across developing countries.

The Fund stated that these initiatives are helping accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy systems while strengthening climate resilience and supporting inclusive development.

As part of its global development mandate, ADFD continues to finance high-impact clean energy projects aimed at expanding electricity access, reducing dependence on conventional fuels, and enhancing long-term energy security. These efforts align with the UAE’s broader sustainability vision, which places climate action and environmental responsibility at the core of national development priorities.

ADFD also works in collaboration with international organisations such as the International Renewable Energy Agency to support renewable energy deployment in developing countries, particularly small island developing states transitioning to low-carbon energy systems.

Commenting on the initiative, Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi said that accelerating the global energy transition requires coordinated international cooperation and sustained investment. He noted that clean energy financing remains a key pillar of ADFD’s development strategy, enabling partner countries to improve electricity access, reduce emissions, and build climate resilience.

ADFD also highlighted several major renewable energy projects across Africa and the Middle East, including a 6.3 MW solar power plant in the Union of Comoros, financed with AED 25.7 million, aimed at stabilising electricity supply and reducing fossil fuel dependence.

In Jordan, the Fund supported the Sheikh Zayed Solar Power Complex, valued at AED 551 million, which generates 103 MW of solar power and supplies electricity to more than 50,000 homes, strengthening energy independence and reducing carbon emissions.

In the Seychelles, ADFD financed a 6 MW wind power project worth AED 103 million, contributing to the country’s clean energy transition and reducing reliance on diesel-based generation.

The Fund also supported wind energy projects in Mauritania, including four wind stations along the Atlantic coast, which provide clean electricity to remote communities while supporting local skills development and job creation.

Since its establishment in 1971, ADFD has financed strategic projects across energy, infrastructure, water, and agriculture sectors, reinforcing its commitment to delivering sustainable development solutions with long-term global impact.
