Australia Awards 1.9 GW Renewable Energy And 3.7 GWh Storage Projects To Accelerate WA Clean Energy Transition
Time:2026-05-11 Click:0

Western Australia is advancing a major clean energy buildout after awarding contracts for 1.9 GW of renewable generation and 3.7 GWh of battery storage.

The projects were selected under capacity investment tenders aimed at strengthening power supply as the state moves away from coal-fired generation. The awarded portfolio includes renewable energy projects and long-duration batteries designed to improve reliability in the Wholesale Electricity Market.

Battery storage is a central part of the plan because it can dispatch electricity when solar and wind output are lower. Longer storage duration will help the grid manage evening peaks and maintain stability as renewable penetration increases.

The investment is also expected to support construction employment and long-term operational roles, adding an economic dimension to the state’s energy transition.

By combining new renewable capacity with grid-scale storage, Western Australia is positioning itself for a cleaner and more resilient power system over the coming years.
