Bangladesh Power Development Board has proposed a 442 MW grid-connected solar power plant in Rampal, Bagerhat, which could become the country's largest solar project if approved and completed. SolarQuarter reported that the project carries an estimated investment of Tk2,502.39 crore.
The proposed facility is targeted for commissioning by December 2030, subject to planning and regulatory approvals. PDB has projected a tariff of Tk6.18 per unit, lower than the tariff of the existing Sonagazi solar project.
The proposal aligns with Bangladesh's Renewable Energy Policy 2025 and the country's wider climate commitments. As electricity demand grows, utility-scale solar can help diversify the generation mix and improve energy security. The Rampal project also shows how public-sector planning may play a larger role in accelerating renewable capacity additions.
