The foundation stone has been laid for a 100 MW power plant project in Al-Mukalla, aimed at enhancing electricity generation capacity and improving service reliability along the Hadhramaut coast.

The project is being developed through a tripartite partnership involving the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen, the Yemeni Ministry of Electricity and Energy, and Gulf Power International Company under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

In addition to the coastal project, plans are underway to construct a similar 100 MW power plant in the Hadhramaut Valley and Desert, further expanding the region’s electricity infrastructure. These developments are being implemented in line with a previously signed memorandum of understanding between the three parties.

The initiative is designed to increase energy production efficiency, strengthen grid reliability, and ensure continuity of essential services, contributing to improved living conditions for local communities.

Officials highlighted that the projects are expected to deliver a significant boost to infrastructure development in the governorate, supporting sectors such as healthcare, education, and public services. The programme also aligns with broader efforts to enhance electricity capacity across Yemen and promote sustainable energy solutions.

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by senior government representatives and project stakeholders, reflecting the strategic importance of the initiative in advancing Yemen’s power sector resilience.
