The African Development Bank is helping Mauritania develop a competitive framework for green hydrogen and related products, strengthening the country's ability to attract clean energy investment. SolarQuarter reported that a validation workshop was held in Nouakchott in April 2026 to review auction procedures and implementation steps.
The support is being delivered through AfDB-backed energy transition and technical assistance programmes. The work covers auction design, legal foundations, bidding documents and institutional capacity within Mauritania's energy ministry.
Mauritania has strong renewable resource potential and is positioning green hydrogen as a future industrial growth pillar. A clearer auction framework could help investors assess risk, compare project opportunities and move from early-stage interest toward bankable development. For Africa's hydrogen market, the programme is also important because it may provide a replicable structure for other emerging producers.
