EIB Global has highlighted clean energy and infrastructure within a EUR 9 billion financing programme covering 119 projects worldwide, including solar and storage investment in Africa.

Solar and energy access

The programme includes Egypt's Obelisk photovoltaic and battery storage project, designed to serve more than 1.3 million households. Other energy initiatives cover minigrids and regional electricity transmission.

Financing context

The bank signed EUR 2 billion of financing in Sub-Saharan Africa, allocating 46% to climate action and environmental sustainability. The broader EUR 9 billion total covers multiple sectors and regions and is not solely a solar investment figure.
