Ember reports that combined national energy storage targets for 2030 have reached 822 GW, still about 45% below the COP29 pledge of 1,500 GW.
The assessment covers 99 countries and the European Union. China and the EU account for most of the increase in commitments. The target figures represent policy ambitions, not installed capacity.
The analysis finds a relationship between ambitious solar plans and storage commitments, while eight of the 20 largest solar markets lack specific 2030 storage targets. Clear goals can support coordinated grid planning and investment as solar generation expands.
