Vietnam Report Makes Case for Faster Solar and Wind Development
Time:2026-10-16 Click:0

An IEEFA report argues that Vietnam could meet rising electricity demand more economically by prioritising domestic solar and wind alongside grid and storage investment.

Exposure to imported fuel

Vietnam's revised power plan targets 22.5 GW of LNG-fired capacity by 2030. IEEFA estimates that fully operating this planned fleet could require USD 15.5–23.6 billion in annual LNG imports.

Renewable alternatives

The report identifies international fuel-price volatility, construction costs and equipment lead times as risks to gas development. It presents renewable deployment as an alternative strategy; these conclusions are analytical assessments rather than a newly adopted government policy.
