Qatar's solar photovoltaic capacity is forecast to expand at a compound annual rate of 12.4% between 2025 and 2035. The outlook points to a larger role for solar in a power system that remains heavily reliant on natural gas.
GlobalData projects that renewable energy will account for 25.9% of Qatar's installed power capacity by 2035, compared with 12% in 2025. Total installed capacity is forecast to grow at an annual compound rate of 4.2% over the same period. These are projections, not confirmed future outcomes.
Solar expansion includes the Al Kharsaah, Ras Laffan and Mesaieed projects, alongside development at Dukhan. Large projects are central to the expected increase in photovoltaic capacity.
Natural gas is still expected to provide about 74% of installed capacity in 2035. Grid development and electricity demand, including desalination, remain important considerations as the country adds solar generation.
