Kenya’s standalone solar equipment sales reached approximately 2.4 million units in 2025, compared with 1.7 million in 2021.
The figures indicate continued demand for decentralized electricity among households and businesses beyond established grids. Larger systems support appliances and small businesses, while solar irrigation creates additional agricultural uses.
Installment financing helps customers purchase equipment, but irregular household incomes can make repayments difficult. Higher-capacity systems also require greater initial spending. Wider adoption therefore depends on affordable products and sustainable consumer financing, alongside distribution and maintenance services.
