India produced 20,176.5 million units of solar electricity in September 2026, accounting for about 63.03% of renewable generation excluding large hydropower.
Figures attributed to the Central Electricity Authority put total renewable output excluding large hydro at 32,010.94 million units, up 22.81% from September 2025. Wind contributed 9,922.45 million units, or roughly 31% of the total. Together, solar and wind supplied nearly 94%.
Installed solar capacity exceeded 170 GW by the end of September, while wind capacity stood at 59,201 MW. Continued additions increase the importance of transmission capacity, flexible grid operation and energy storage as variable renewable generation expands.
