Ivanhoe Mines has completed integration of a solar and battery system at the Kamoa-Kakula mining operation in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The installation became fully operational in the third quarter of 2026.
The project combines 433 MWp of photovoltaic capacity with 1,107 MWh of battery storage to provide 60 MW of continuous baseload supply. Solar nameplate capacity and continuous output are different measures.
CrossBoundary Energy and Green World Energie funded, own and operate the infrastructure, with the mine as sole offtaker. Kamoa-Kakula plans to increase on-site hybrid supply to 120 MW over the next 18 months, supported by additional agreements signed in April and August 2026.
